Today we’re previewing the new single from Joey Clarkson & Louise Parker. Their collaboration, If You Want Me To, will be available to stream and download from 29th May 2020.
The track was recorded remotely from their respective home studios and is the first of five releases from Joey Clarkson; all of which have been produced in strict adherence to the current social distancing measures in place in the UK. Clarkson’s go-to producer Ryan Griffiths also performed on and mixed the track from his home in Bedfordshire, while Peter Hewitt-Dutton mastered the single from Los Angeles.
This duet is an earworm with an intensely catchy melody and harmonies to die for. Lyrically, it’s the story of a new relationship – ‘this could be the start of a new beginning’ – and musically, it sounds like waking up to a new day. This is a great composition. I find myself humming it throughout the day – it’s a perfect fledgeling relationship soundtrack with dreamy piano and classic acoustic guitar, and the chorus is the stuff audience sing-alongs are made of. Both Joey and Louise have described this one as Princess Diaries meets country and that’s exactly what it sounds like. It’ll go down an absolute treat on the stage.
‘If You Want Me To’ is the first single to follow Clarkson’s latest album The Year That Never Happened, which received critical acclaim from Maverick Magazine, picked up airplay on Solar Radio, and earned a prime-time slot on London Live TV. The track also precedes Parker’s upcoming EP, which is set to drop in June. Last year, Louise had four songs in the iTunes top ten UK country hits and made her debut on BBC Introducing.
