Floridian Christopher J Essex grew up dreaming of being an entertainer. From musical theatre aspirations to finding peace in the realness of country music, Essex made the trip to Nashville – via New York City and Chicago. Swipe Right On Me was inspired in part by an abundance of dating app notifications – I am 100% the dating app generation, he says – and an Alan Jackson classic on the radio. With inspiration at hand, Essex and co-writer Bill DiLuigi took it and ran.
Swipe Right On Me is fantastically classic – a little jive, a little honky-tonk and a whole lot of fun. Essex has a beautifully rich voice and explores his range throughout the song – teasing versatility and wowing with a lovely low and slow section in the bridge. Essex is no stranger to storytelling, but it’s his connection with the lyrics and infectious energy that propel this line-dance ditty from toe-tapper to show-stopper.
