Since the release of her last single, Nothing Left, Halle Kearns’ meteoric rise has continued. With over 1.4 million views on TikTok and over 400k streams, the much-anticipated single opened a new chapter of Kearns’ career – one she continues this week with the second of three new singles from her upcoming sophomore EP. Happy In This Bar, released on 8th October, promises another glimpse behind the curtain at the girl behind the mask.
Inspired by Kearns’ own experiences of fitting into someone else’s mold, Happy In This Bar is one of her most traditional country offerings. “It’s the inner dialogue of feeling the constant need to fit into the “life of the party” mold that I created for myself,” Kearns explains. “So instead, I go through the motions of meeting others’ expectations of who I am.” In contrast to the dreamlike soundscape of Nothing Left, this single is very 90s in sound. It’s packed full of picked strings and slides, with modern production giving it that contemporary twist loved by country radio. With this single, Kearns will generate further buzz for her second EP, due for release this winter. If the first two singles from it are any indication, it’s sure to be a masterpiece.
“I hope people listen to the song and find comfort in relation, while also feeling encouraged to walk away from compromising their actual wants.” – Halle Kearns
