Yorkshire lass and BCMA award winner Jade Helliwell is one of the UK’s best-known country artists. Fresh from her collaboration with Emilia Quinn and friends on Girl Talk, Jade is releasing If I Were You on April 2nd 2021.
If I Were You is catchy, empowering and anthemic. Written by fellow British artist Laura Oakes, the lyrics imagine a conversation with a love interest, encouraging them to make a move. Themes of self-reflection and the awareness of deserving love are poignant and always relevant – messages Helliwell instantly connected with. The production is lush and modern, full of guitar-driven melodies and contemporary radio-ready elements in a similar sonic lane to Kelsea Ballerini. In comparison to her previous single, Telephone, this is a little less heartfelt country and a little more pop, but Helliwell’s vocal performance is – as always – flawless.
The track was recorded and produced remotely, with Helliwell recording vocals at home and guitar and pedal steel added by Luke Thomas (UK) and Eddy Dunlap (Nashville) respectively. Rob Gulston of The Banger Hanger produced.
