Not long after It Made Me Me, Jessica Lynne Witty is back – this time as a featured vocalist on Surrender by Raymond Hayden. Written during and about the current pandemic experience, Surrender is a message to simply give in to the madness and understand that it will not last forever.
Surrender opens with swelling strings and a beautiful, delicate piano track. Both the strings and the keys carry through the song, joined by 80s-inspired electric guitars and percussion. It has all the makings of a classic power ballad, but it’s more upbeat and hopeful in its message. Witty’s vocals are as powerful and perfect as ever – I remain convinced there is nothing this woman couldn’t sing. And this is a perfect feel-good sing-along song.
