We’re running a little behind schedule this week but our 17th weekly playlist is DUETS!

Weekly playlist #17: duets

You wanted some duets – well, we’ve got plenty for you! From Brad and Carrie to Lucy and Joe, settle in for harmonies galore.

As always, I’ve chosen some highlights and this week’s are Red DressAlmost Over You and Ragged Company.

When I first heard that Lucy Hale – yes, of Pretty Little Liars fame – had a country album, I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt.  And then I listened to it.  Hale has a lovely voice and Red Dress with Joe Nichols is easily one of the standouts. The harmonies are lovely, the song is catchy and the blend of Hale’s and Nichols’ voices works perfectly.

Almost Over You is from Decker’s second album ‘Southern Girl City Lights’ and showcases her absolutely astounding range. It’s a maddening tale of almost-acceptance before being pulled back in – and with Jessie’s signature sultry vocal and some gorgeous guitar work, it’s a dead cert for this week’s second highlight spot.

Ragged Company is a new discovery, but Grace Potter’s power and control are absolutely stunning – and who doesn’t love a bit of Willie Nelson?! His vocal adds a new layer of fragility to an already vulnerable story, and this retelling of a Grace Potter and the Nocturnals original is beautifully reimagined in a traditional country style.
