Weekly Playlist #35: a very country christmas

Well folks, it’s December. The longest year ever is finally coming to a close, and sprinkling plenty of festive cheer on its way out. There has been so much holiday music this season, I’ve been spoilt for choice putting these playlists together! This week you’ve chosen the first of several Christmas playlists, so without further ado – let those bells ring!

This week’s highlights might be the most difficult yet. I’m naming Thank God For Christmas as my first highlight because it’s just so festive and uplifting – the bells, Moskaluke’s stunning voice, the infectious melody – it has everything you could ask for in a Christmas song and it’s been on my seasonal playlists consistently ever since its release.

My second highlight is A Holly Jolly Christmas. This is another of my all-time favourite holiday songs, and although – naturally – I’ve opted for Brett Eldredge on this week’s playlist, it wasn’t as easy a decision as you might imagine because there are so many fantastic renditions out there! Ultimately though, Eldredge’s smooth American Songbook style won out. If you’re looking for some classic music this year, I highly recommend his entire Glow album!

Finally – and how could I not – my third highlight is It’s Christmas.  Becky Lawrence has had a stellar 2020, bagging her first #1, becoming the first Three Chords managed artist, and capping it off with her first holiday song. I’ve heard this song in various stages of completeness and each time, it never fails to put a smile on my face.  It’s wholesome and bubblegum in the best of ways, sharing kindness and spirit even in the dark.
