Weekly Playlist #42: best of british - 2020

This week’s polls were pretty close, but with all the results in, you’ve raised your voice for best of british: the 2020 edition (part 2)! We shared part one a few weeks ago but the British country music scene was so lively and full of extraordinary talent throughout 2020, it took an entire second playlist to include all of our top picks.  So, without further ado, welcome to our #42nd (!) weekly playlist.

My first highlight from this list is Bonnie & Clyde.  I love the traditional country sound of this song and the rich guitar – it’s a little bit outlaw, and we all know I love a bit of outlaw!

Next up is Small Town Chains, and I’m still – even now – absolutely blown away that this is Harriet Rose’s debut single.  I fell even more in love with this song when I saw Harriet perform it live, and it just seems to get better on every listen. Harriet has enjoyed stratospheric success with this single, winning numerous awards and even more nominations throughout 2020. She’s recently announced a second single and I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!

Finally, Greasy Mabel has to take the third highlight spot – if for no other reason than the sheer number of times I’ve listened to it! It was so unexpected and refreshing when it landed in my inbox for the first time, and I absolutely adore the retro sound and Cookman’s spectacular voice. It’s been on my personal playlist rotation since its release and I honestly can’t see that ending any time soon – it’s timeless, and definitely one of the best of the year.
