Weekly Playlist #62: country kind of party

It’s summer, and that means it’s party time, am I right?! Whether it’s a BBQ in the garden, a celebration at the pool or a starlit campfire at the ocean, this playlist is perfect for your celebratory gatherings. I had so much fun putting this one together, and listening to it over and over again.

Highlights this week come from Jon Pardi – Heartache On The Dancefloor is such a breath of fresh country air in a landscape filled with R&B beats and pop synths. Pardi’s neo-traditional sound has made him a force to be reckoned with on the charts, and this song was the foundation for the entire playlist.

Next up is Cinderella’s Had A Drink. Tommy Atkins is – as you know – one of my favourite people in country music, and this song is a big part of why. His smart lyrics and tongue-in-cheek storytelling infuse an oft-sombre genre with sass and humour, and this fiddle and steel-heavy song is an absolute treat and perfect for a party.

Finally, Drink In My Hand takes the third highlight spot – because who has a party without a drink in their hand? It doesn’t matter whether it’s lemonade or whiskey, as long as there’s a drink in that hand, you’re good to go.

Shoutout to both Brooks Jefferson and The Deep Dixie Boys – they’re not quite Garth Brooks, but I couldn’t let a party playlist go by without getting some Garth influence in there somehow!

Whatever you’re doing to celebrate summer: don’t forget to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and play something country.
