#whatmadeyoucountry - Juna N Joey

Born in Florida, West Palm Beach natives and brother-and-sister duo Juna N Joey has organically developed a robust and loyal following after posting covers on YouTube, earning over 7 million collective views. Their signature is their striking harmonies, taking influence from pop-country heroes Dan + Shay and Lady A, as well as all-time classics like The Carpenters.

At just 16, Juna’s charismatic songwriting and seasoned vocal style sets her head and shoulders above her peers. Also a multi-instrumentalist, she plays keys, acoustic guitar, Cajon and drums, and is also learning violin. Older brother Joey is also a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, adding acoustic and electric guitar, sax and keys to the band, as well as his powerful voice.

Juna:

(Country music means) family, home and normal life, and God. We actually started with rock (music) and we just weren’t feeling it as much so then we switched to country music. That’s where our heart is.

The first country song I ever heard was ‘Blue’ by LeAnn Rimes. I love her tone and the whole vibe. Dan + Shay are the artists who inspire me most – their harmonies are beautiful. If I could only listen to one country album for the next decade, it would be What You See Is What You Get by Luke Combs.

Joey:

(Country music is about ) hard work and clean living. Our grandfather was in a country band and he would sing country songs, so I guess it’s in our blood!

The first country song I ever heard was “Would You Go With Me” by Josh Turner. I have a lot (of artists who inspire me) but if I had to pick one, I’d have to say Dan + Shay because of their harmonies. Juna and I love having harmony in our music. If I could only listen to one country album for the next decade, I’d say (Luke Combs) as well. What a record!
